Gandhi This statement is telling all of India that only through submission will they continue to be under Great Britains rule. The statement itself seems so simple, but if you consider the consequences you then realize how powerful the statement really is. Gandhi is telling all of India that they are responsible for allowing Britain to continue as rulers. Every time they adhere to Britains law they are accepting Britains rule. What makes the statement even more powerful is the understanding that Gandhi wanted the people to peacefully refuse to cooperate. To refuse to comply with Britains law without retaliation of any kind. This is why the statement is so powerful, and I agree with it. Can you imagine going to war with someone without any type of weapons or ammunition? This is exactly what Gandhi wanted, no expected, the people of India to do. He knew that India could never hope to win back their country by using violence. Britain was too powerful and had too many soldiers that were trained for war. Gandhi also did not believe in violence for any reason. His main goal was to win back their country through peaceful means, even if he had to die to achieve the victory. When you think about Gandhis achievement of convincing a whole country to fight by not submitting to laws set forth by Britain through peaceful means, is just astounding. It is impossible to rule anything or anyone without them allowing you to do it. Gandhi was trying to make all of India understand that without their cooperation, there were no rulers. His biggest challenge was to get the people to agree to do this without any use of violence. In the initial years of 2000 Oman faced minimum growth in medical care due to non availability of proper medical facility and high expense. This is reflected in the change in rate of price change from negative to positive. But it has shown growth later on with response to the factors demanding for health and care of the country and this is again reflected in the slowdown of inflation rate after 2003. Then comes the most important consumer goods clothing and footwear sector where again a fluctuation in the CPI growth rate can be traced in the years 2002-2003 and again in 2006 but in later part it has increased. The manufacturing sector overall showed marked improvement and this might have generated more demand which in turn brought in inflation. In case of housing furniture and rent electricity water and fuel a huge deflation has been observed in the years 2002-2004 consecutively. In both the sectors the re was a downfall because at that time there was no change in the market condition for these years and in 2005 there was ‘0’ growth rate in price. But after that gradually it started taking up its position by severe improvement in the economy of the country. Sometimes growth in a sector can momentarily bring about inflation. The transport and communication sector is though highly developed in Oman with proper facility of road, airport, ports and railway has more or less consistent inflation in the following years except on 2003 when it came down to -0.50. The Significance of the Bible for Christian Theology - Essay Example There are several approaches to the authority of the Scripture, with most of them being inadequate. One theory states that every word in the Scripture is inspired by God. That is a very rigid view that leads to many mistakes and claims of Scripture being inerrant at all instances. This doctrine of the authority of Scripture receives much criticism in this modern day and ultimately turns Scripture’s authority into authoritarianism. Another approach to the Bible as to the historical source also proves to be faulty as, alongside with the benefits it yields; it also diverts the attention to factuality and separates the literary form from the meaning of the text. There is also an approach to the Bible as a literary classic. It might be beneficial to have this approach to introduce Bible to otherwise ignorant group of students, but it hardly generates deep interest in it or, what more, introduces spiritual principle to abide by. Approach to the Bible as to a private devotional text helps to have a personal application of the Scripture, but it tends to put less emphasis on the common and universal. Other theological approach to the Bible is studying it from a viewpoint of it being the â€Å"Word of God†, which also puts certain limitation. God does not have limitations, but the language always has some limitations of expression. Also, language evolves with time and words’ meaning change too, thus proving that language itself cannot be attributed to God, Who is infinite and full of possibilities. (Schneider, 1991, p. 205). Approaching the Word of God only as metaphoric expression, although it is a root and a complex metaphor, includes many meanings such as God’s symbolic self-disclosure, sharing of life and His divine self-giving (Schneider, 1991, p. 216). God has to use symbols for the metaphor. Sneider argues that even from the very ancient times God used â€Å"symbolic self-disclosure† through nature. For Israelites God’s Word became a mean of communication between them and God, and â€Å"made a highly original advance in symbolic interpret ation† by understanding â€Å"their own history as the story of the relationship between themselves and God† (Schneider, 1991, p. 215). They viewed Jesus â€Å"as full and divine revelation of God† (Schneider, 1991, p. 216). From the point of view of God’s Word being metaphoric, the Bible is a symbolic witness of the divine self-gift, and is potentially revelatory. When referring to the Word of God, the reference is usually made to the written word in the Bible, which is understood as the physical object (the book) as well as the text and the message contained therein. The Bible is considered a sacramental object, which at times, leads to distortions such as a temptation to view such objects as magic, taking it out of context or a temptation is to create an idol out it. In actuality, the Word of God is only sacramental when the biblical text is read and interpreted, and that creates the possibility of revelation (Schneider, 1991, p. 220). The Scripture is the unique and sacred book. Another author argues that Gospels tell us about nature of Scripture’s authority and means by which God exerts it, which is the word. Biology is Beauty Essay The article â€Å"Biology is Beauty† by Geoffrey Cowley touches on the aspects behind beauty. The article states that everyone shares a sense of what is attractive. Basically, Cowley is stating that people are attracted to what is on the outside, even if we do not know it. Even though points of attraction can vary over societies, beauty is an innate quality we all think of. The article touches on a few examples that the author feels explains. First, Cowley says that humans love symmetry; people prefer other people whose physical features are symmetric. These findings on symmetry were proven to be true despite race or gender. To prove this point, the author provided data from a study at the University of Texas. The study took 3 and 6 month old children and showed them series of photos. There were sets of photos with 2 photos at a time, one considered attractive and another considered unattractive. The study showed that the babies spent considerably more time staring at the photos of attractive people. The study was run multiple times using female and males of different races. This study is trying to show that humans are prewired to favor more attractive people. Further into the article the author mentions the connection between beauty and body type. Men and women have tendencies to like people with better body types, more so with men. Certain animals choose their mates off which is the most physically dominant, and the article suggests humans are not so far off. The article provides the views of the skeptics but states their research proves their assumptions. The article has a few positive and negative aspects. A pro to this article is fact that men are attracted to women with better bodies. This is generally true in society for both men and women. However, this statement is not always true. Humans are not so much attracted to a person with the best body type, but more so the body type that suites their needs the best. People are individuals and attractiveness to body types is not so much an innate quality. There is some truth to fact that symmetrical faces are more appealing. Physical attractiveness does first ignite interactions between two people but it is not the most overlaying factor as the article suggests. Beauty does not begin and end on the outside; a person’s inner qualities define them just as much, if not more, than their physical beauty. Humans do share qualities with animals as the article states, but overall the individuality of people is truly what  defines their beauty. When it comes to accredit this article to be published, I feel that it should. Even though I do not fully agree with all the aspects of this article, the statistical data the author shows holds some merit. This article brings up controversy as well, putting people at odds on how much beauty really matters.

One African-American man in particular exemplifies this fact. Anthony Johnson escalated in society from being a slave1 to becoming a wealthy landowner with slaves of his own.2 The successes of this man both economically and socially provide a rather important window into the lives and opinions of the peoples in Virginia at the time, especially the black community and their treatment by their fellow white agriculturalists. â€Å"Antonio a Negro† arrived in Virginia in 1621 as a servant on a tobacco plantation, it was during his servitude that he met his wife Mary who had been bought to work at the same location several years after Anthony. Although it still remains a mystery how Anthony and Mary accumulated their wealth, they managed to buy their way out of servitude and acquire land of there own.3 They were not alone in this endeavor, however; it is known that several free blacks were able to advance in society in similar fashion. In the years between the mid 17th century into the later part of the century blacks were able to acquire land and status in the Virginian society. The bank plans to roll out an early retirement scheme for senior employees aged 40 or more, who have been with the lender for 10 years or longer. This is the bank's second attempt to trim its 31,000-strong workforce since 2009.The first attempt had received a lukewarm response, and this time the private sector lender has tailored the scheme to target people who may be good performers but don't have the ability to make it big. â€Å"This time, the scheme seems to be more targeted and we hope executives will prefer to accept it rather than be fired at a later date on the pretext of non-performance,† said an  Axis Bank  official, who requested anonymity. â€Å"The management wants to reduce the number of vice-presidents and senior vice-presidents. It wants a leaner and younger organisation,† the official added.Axis Bank is not the first private institution to offer an early retirement scheme. In its earlier avatar as a financial institution, ICICI had introduced its first  VRS  in 1996-97. The second scheme came in late-1999. Later, in 2003, the KV Kamath-led  ICICI Bank  announced an early retirement offer targeted at erstwhile employees of ICICI and Bank of Madura. Shikha Sharma, who headed ICICI Prudential before taking up the reins at Axis Bank, seems to be following the ICICI management style in her new job. Axis has 31,738 employees. Its staff cost was 577. 90 crore at the end of September 2012, compared with 498. 2 crore in the year-ago period. â€Å"The bank may face immediate financial burden as it would have to make lump sum payments to employees. On a year-on-year basis, the retail banking grew 43 per cent as of the second quarter, while large and mid-corporate banking grew just 15 per cent, he said. â€Å"The focus on retail assets will continue to grow, and our target is to take it further to 30 per cent by the end of FY15.It is a part of strategic intent to grow the retail book. We a re expanding through home, auto and personal loans. We are also selling credit cards to our existing customers. † On Monday, the bank reported better-than-expected Q2 numbers logging in 22. 08 per cent rise in net profit to  Rs. 1,123 crore. Terming the quarterly numbers as satisfactory despite a challenging environment, Sengupta said retail advances and lower expenses helped the bank post good numbers.Total income rose 27 per cent to  Rs. 8,280. 29 crore in the July-September quarter. NII rose to  Rs. 2,327 crore from  Rs. 2,007 crore, while other income grew 29 per cent to  Rs. 1,593 crore, driven by growth in fee income which stood at  Rs. 1,343 crore, a growth of 20 per cent. The bank saw its trading income rise to  Rs. 207 crore during the quarter, he said. The bank improved its net interest margin to 3. 46 per cent in the reporting period from 3. 37 per cent at the end of the first quarter.Sengupta further said the bank could maintain asset quality as its g ross NPAs and net NPAs stood barely unchanged at 1. 10 per cent and 0. 33 per cent, respectively as against 1. 08 per cent and 0. 34 per cent as of September 2011. The bank held a provision coverage of 80 per cent as a proportion of gross NPAs, including prudential write-offs. The bank had made an additional provision of  Rs. 115 crore in the quarter, he said, adding it has provided for the exposure to the troubled Hyderabad-based Deccan Chronicle Group, which has become a bad asset now.However, Sengupta did not reveal whether the bank has made full provisions for the Deccan loans and also the exact amount of the exposure. However, it has been learnt Axis Bank has exposure of over  Rs. 400 crore to the diversified company. Asked about the bank's exposure to the state-run power distribution companies (discoms) whose  Rs. 1. 9 trillion of debt was recast last month, he said it was â€Å"limited† but refused to quantify it. Similar was his response when asked about the tex tile sector, whose  Rs. 16,000 crore of debt is being recast with government intervention now.Sengupta also refused to disclose the status of other two default accounts– SevenHills Hospital (exposure at around  Rs. 463 crore) and Icomm Tele (around  Rs. 220 crore). About fresh slippages during Q2, he said the quarter saw a gross slippage of  Rs. 628 crore primarily due to a large corporate account. The region consists of a large number of ancient civilizations stretching back some 3000 years. During this time, people crossed the region through trade and invasion routes and brought with them a plethora of traditions, cultures and religion which still exist today. Middle eastern countries each have their own unique identity and culture, but also share many fundamental beliefs and traditions. The Middle Eastern region consists of Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The region has a population of 200,000,000 with various dialects of Arabic and Persian. The region also speaks English as well as French in Lebanon. Religion  Three of the worlds major religions originated from the Middle East. These religions include Islam, Judaism and Christianity with the majority of the people in the region practicing Islam. Judaism and Christianity while minor to Islam are mainly practiced in Israel and Lebanon. In this region, Islam is a way of life and governs politics, moral values and various aspects of behavior such as how one should dress. Islam impacts the daily lives of people differently depending on what country they are in. Communication in this region is relatively indirect and relies on nonverbal cues and figurative forms of speech. Saving face and respecting an individuals honor are key drivers in the this indirect communication style and is prevalent throughout the Middle East. People in this region have a more flexible attitude towards time and do not always start or finish at the scheduled time. Punctuality will be expected of foreigners, although local nationals may not be as punctual. The region is predominantly Muslim and time must be allocated during the workday to allow for prayer, which may interrupt the daily business schedule. When Muslims are at prayer, they should not be interrupted. Individuals should remember that it is rude to eat or drink inform of Muslims during Ramadan due to fasting, do not use your left hand, particularly when eating, because it is considered unclean in parts of the Middle East.
